IC Inbox - Asgard Eventide

[samantha_grey]

An old, brick edifice stands in front of the burnt-down ruins of a home in the hillside. Mountains rear up in all directions, covered in lush, green vegetation. Nobody comes this way anymore, but you have the sense that anything placed in the mailbox attached to this old structure will be found by someone, the only living person for whom this place still has any meaning.

[ kaworu nods ] I wonder which is better. [ kaworu never felt either of the two.

He looks around as he walks inside and eyes set on the curry. He never had any or even smelled it, so he has no idea what that is. ] what are you cooking?

Gah... love curry too much.

Disgust means it's easier for me to keep going, so I prefer that. [She muttered that before pointing at the food she was cooking.] It's curry. A strong spice they use in India. You make a paste with it, and I add vegetables, a little fruit and some lamb to cook it up and serve over rice.

[ ohh.

Except. Well, kaworu doesn't eat meat ]

I won't eat the meat, but I will eat the rest.

Ditto. 'm more a fan than my wife is.

[samantha_grey]

[She blinked and her cheeks colored a little.] I'll keep this on low heat. Hand me that yellow box in the first cupboard on the left. It won't take much time to fix you some veggie.

[ kaworu blinks and shakes his head with a warmer smile ] Don't worry about it. It was my fault, I should have told you. [ because he is so used to only eat vegetarian, he forgets most people aren't.

He does move to grab the yellow box as requested ]

It's not a problem. I don't mind cooking more. I still have some vegetables ready to go. [She hadn't been sure how much she was making, so she was a little glad for that this time around. Breaking off the little cube from inside the box, she set about making another paste and just left the first to simmer on low heat.]

[ Kaworu stays close by but he doesn't disturb her. he is mostly looking at her cooking so he can learn and try to do it, too, later on ]

[Blessedly, curry's simple to make, so watching her's a good way to learn. It's one of those sort of 'ready-made' types of things. As she works, though, she starts talking.]

So... you came over because of my asking about the dwarves. I want to ask you something. It's fine either way, but do you want to actually know what we were doing down there? Or are you still ok never knowing?

I'm curious by nature. I want to know all that I can and am allowed. But I'm also alright with never knowing.

Do you want to tell me?

This isn't about curiosity, this time, Kaworu.

[She stirred and looked over at him quietly for a minute. Kid or not, he was still a lot more than a normal child.]

If you choose to know, you're part of this plan we're working on, and it's not something we want shared, not with the others, not with the gods, not the giants. Maybe eventually... but not now. There'd be people who would stop us, and I think we need this option. Short-sightedness could get us all killed.

I can promise you I won't tell anyone, if you wish to believe me.

But I can not promise you I will be part of the plan, Samantha. I don't become part of anyone's plans so easily anymore. [ someone already did that to him and in the end, he didn't do as planned because he is not a doll. ]

[samantha_grey]

[She considered for a minute, frowning a little. That was enough for her, really. She hadn't liked keeping this a secret when he'd come the first time.]

We're making a weapon. We don't know it will work, but it's designed to kill a god or a giant. I got the plans in the well, while the others were looking for a way to save Freyr.

[ kaworu eyes her for a moment, before his eyes turn to the curry again ]

And which one do you wish to use this weapon on? A god or a giant?

[samantha_grey]

We haven't decided, but I think most of us are leaning towards the giants. It's not something that can be decided just because others say "They're the enemy." We need to be sure who the biggest threat really is to all of us.

[ kaworu is so used to the whole "kill them before they kill us" tactic. ]

Do you want me to be part of this, too?

[samantha_grey]

[Close. It's more "We want to have the tools if we need them." She just expected to need them. the difference was basically academic.]

If you want, you can. If you'd rather just know that it's happening, then you do. We're not there, and it may take a while...

But, Odin's made a mistake with us. He uses us like expendable pawns to stem his gap. He wants to end this war, to stop Thiazi, but he seems to think he and the others can do it. The thing is... if they're destined to end one way, and Thiazi's changed things, then there's only one thing in the equation that's really changed in favor of the gods.

...us.

Expendable? Though they bring us back to life; if we were that expendable, they would not bother and instead just bring in more travelers. [ Kaworu has died three times, twice in Asgard. they bothered enough to resurrect him all these three times, even if Kaworu doesn't even think he is important at all ]

They brought us here because they need us. And even Thiazi finds us important. [ important enough to try to mess with the travelers directly. So, to say Odin doesn't give travelers much importance is a bit suspicious. Perhaps he does, he simply doesn't wish to show it.

Still, the angel does not say anything that is simply an assumption. ]

... maybe I should rephrase what I mean by expendable. They certainly are willing to risk our lives and bring us back... but you do have a certain point. Still, it's clear enough that they have a very specific role they want us in.

And they don't really want us to leave that role, though... they don't all agree on that attitude. Ran and the Lokis are ... a little more open-minded than he is. [She sighed.] No, you're right. I'm not really being completely fair. I'm just tired of how much we've had to fight to get them to let us do more than create color, how much we have to struggle to get answers. How long was it before they opened the library?

[ Kaworu looks at the curry, and he actually thinks about tasting it even if it's not ready. The reason why he doesn't it's because this is Samantha's cooking, but he is the kind to want to taste the food before it's even ready.

Still, as he eyes it, he speaks softly ]

And when they give us room for more, we plot to create a weapon against them. [ Kaworu is not being harsh nor critical (even if he sounds like that). But maybe that's why they don't do it.

because he has been locked inside a laboratory with minimal contact since the day his human body was created and only released into the world few days before he died. And he knows why he was kept that way. He knows the reasons.

But he knows why Samantha and others aren't pleased with that role the gods insist on keeping the travelers on. Lilim live for answers and for more. More ways, more paths, more options. It's in their nature, while it's not in Kaworu's nature to do that. ]

What if Odin finds out? are you ready for that and the consequences it might bring?

[samantha_grey]

Never start a fire if you're not willing to burn for it. Eridan and I knew what we were getting into when we started this, and I made sure that the others knew before they got involved, just like I'm making it clear to you. [She sighed.] They gave us the option of finding the way of killing Freya when she went insane. I wouldn't say this is a weapon against them. It's a weapon that can be used against them if we chose to. There's an important difference.

Honestly, though, the more I think about it... no matter how much I don't trust Odin to be fair when the war's over... Thiazi's more dangerous. This thing might as well have her name written all over it. I just don't want to assume things, should the situation change.

My worry is more that one of the gods might betray their own. If Freya can lose it, who's to say it couldn't happen again, right in the middle of the fighting?

To be fair with what, exactly?

[ kaworu nods, though ] To make preparations for the worst, even if the worst may not come. I understand. [ the question is, do people only wish to make preparations or will they want to use these preparations for their own selfish reasons and plots? ]

[samantha_grey]

[That was the danger of a weapon. Anyone who knew how could use it. One reason she had more than one involved was to make sure it wasn't used on the fly, without any thought.]

Kaworu, if you haven't noticed, I'm paranoid. I half expect him to betray the travelers still here when the war ends. Though... that paranoia's fading with time.

And yes, you could say this is meant to prepare for the worst. It's taken so long to prepare that... well, if we didn't start already, I don't know that it could have been available if the travelers needed it otherwise.

Why? has he shown you any signs of otherwise?

[ kaworu nods again. He knows Lilim like to be prepared for... whatever it is. ]

I can't aid you building a weapon, Samantha. [ well. not "can't". rather ] - I won't.

[ like he said, he will not tell anyone about her plans, but kaworu is no0t the kind to build weapons in secrecy. he does not hate Thiazi and he does not hate the gods. He is only fighting to protect the people he loves, but apart from that, he is rather neutral. ]

[samantha_grey]

I'll admit it's paranoia, Kaworu... but paranoia's been a blanket I wrap myself in for years. It's a very hard habit to break. I hope I'm wrong about this, but I never assume it couldn't happen.

[she sighed and nodded.]

But I didn't really think you'd want to. I'm glad you won't share, but I don't expect you to help, so I won't share the details. However... if it would help your mind.

If we're thinking of actually taking a stab at one of the giants, we will [probably] fill Odin or at least Loki in on the plan. We may need their help to get in at all.

[ kaworu smiles ] I just would like for you to be careful.

[ they are, after all, creating something like that. If the gods were not happy about it, bad things could happen in return. ]
