IC Inbox - Asgard Eventide

An old, brick edifice stands in front of the burnt-down ruins of a home in the hillside. Mountains rear up in all directions, covered in lush, green vegetation. Nobody comes this way anymore, but you have the sense that anything placed in the mailbox attached to this old structure will be found by someone, the only living person for whom this place still has any meaning.

[the response that came was over the audio. She'd recognized the name. The memories were vividly clear, though she might not always admit it. She could remember exactly what she'd done, what the woman had seen. She couldn't look her in the face.]

... What do you want?

[Her voice is cracked, haggard and drawn. She sounds tired, almost exhausted. It doesn't sound like she's snapping, however terse she sounds.]

...Look, I just wanna talk, Samantha.

I know last night was... kinda embarrassing, but I wanna tell you that, well... I was serious. I don't wanna judge you for something like that.

Oh god... this is quite possibly the most awkward...

[sigh]

Look, right now, I'm just counting my blessings you didn't do something stupid like come and see me. What do you want to talk about?

[... pause.]

Well... I thought we could be friends. I mean, after that, nothing else can be worse, right...?

I could have hurt you, Yukari. I wanted someone to hurt last night. If you'd come to me, I would have probably tried to claw you before you could use your powers to make me sit there quietly.

[Because she's stubborn. That's reason number 1. But reason number two is her sympathy with someone like that. She hates bullies, and Samantha's practically being bullied by herself. Which, admittedly, could swing either way, but... see step one.]

I know, but... well, we've all got our problems here. And, I mean, I guess we've seen each other at our worst, or close, right?

...I guess we could both probably use a friend, right? [After all, she wasn't sitting there staring at the bracelet because she had overflowing dinner invitations.]

I turn psychotic every once in a while, Yukari. That's a lot more than a few problems.

[She coughed and looked away, knowing that the girl had seen a great deal, had seen her do all of that with herself. She was beat red as she sniffed, unable to look at the screen, even if it was on Audio.]

I... I have to ask, Yukari. And, I need you to be honest with me. I know you sounded just pissed off at me last night, not really turned on, but... you're not at all attracted, are you? please god say no.

[WHAT oh jeez of course, she should've predicted this, but she turns scarlet anyway.]

I--I have a boyfriend, Samantha, th-that's not at all what I was thinking of!

[Pause.] A-And, I would've blown up the world for him, so... You're not the only one who can be crazy.

...At least that's not your fault, you know?

[There is a loud and audible sigh of relief on the other end. It is followed by a small chuckle.] thank god.

I'd... rather not compare crazies. And, really, my hands are the ones that do it. She wasn't entirely lying. It's like she's me, only without any ability to see something as right or wrong, to turn off the desires, the smallest whim. It's hard not to be and to feel responsible.

Just, look... I... we can try, maybe. I don't know. You're still willing, which I don't understand. That's how you met me, after all.

W-Well... Maybe it's partly cuz I hate to give up, ya know? [She chuckles a bit herself.]

Another one of my bad parts... But maybe I can make it a good thing.

[And her sense of accomplishment thanks to persistence is definitely reinforcing that stubbornness, too.]

Anyway, you can't help feeling what you feel, but... At least don't cut yourself off from friends, and stuff. I did that at home, and... It's not a good feeling, it doesn't make anything better.

You really are a stubborn one, aren't you? Look, I started cutting friends off when I started cutting friends back home. It just turned into a really bad scene. But, if you're going to be stubborn like a few other, you're going to be stubborn.

But ... look, I'm sorry you saw that. I can't believe you watched all of it if you weren't... you know.

W-Well. I didn't watch all of it. And... I mean, it was kind of another stubborn thing, right?

[She laughs a little.]

I know it was weird. I knew it was weird then, but... Well, you know, I felt like I was in too far to back out.

You saw plenty. I know, since I was watching you the whole time too. Just know you're never too far in unless I've got my hands wrapped around your throat, and if that's happened next time, it's only because you didn't listen to me the first time. If I could predict this crap, I'd have Shou or someone else tie me to a chair the night before.

Y-Yeah, I technically saw plenty, but... A-Anyway, you're right. Don't worry, that won't happen.

[She sighs and reaches up to rub her forehead. She's scaring the girl, and in part she wants to scare Yukari. She has a feeling it won't make her go away at this point, but she wants her to understand that 'her other half' really is that dangerous.]

Look... I'm sorry. I'm not helping right now. It doesn't happen that often, or at least I hope not, as long as people don't do something stupid like trying to get me aroused.

[She nods, then realizes that Samantha won't be able to see that.]

I understand.

...Don't worry, I won't be trying anything like that.

Look, I won't promise to answer any old question... but do you have any? Under the circumstances, I sort of expect there's at least a few.

... You mean like "what makes you do that"?

If you're comfortable talking about it, anyway.

That's a little easier. I'm half succubus. My father was an incubus. A demon has an easier time controlling that type of behavior, because it is what they are. They're... always like that, to an extent. Half demons can't always control that side properly.

It... just happens to me sometimes.

... Gotcha. Is that kind of thing common in your world...?

Extremely rare. Incubi usually kill their prey, not let them live to have children. There were many people with strange powers, but few were half demons.

Oh--Okay. But, there are demons just existing in your regular world like that...?

Most of them don't just walk the earth, and the smart ones tend to stay hidden. Mob justice scares most anyone, and the ones it doesn't worry about other big bads and artillery if they make too much noise.

They're there. There's plenty of them, but they prefer to stay just out of sight, where they can jump out and catch the unwary.

Is it like Earth... or is it a different planet--or, you know what I mean?

My mom raised me in West Virginia, so yeah. Earth. Some of the crap I saw wasn't from earth, though. But it was Earth.
