IC Inbox - Asgard Eventide

An old, brick edifice stands in front of the burnt-down ruins of a home in the hillside. Mountains rear up in all directions, covered in lush, green vegetation. Nobody comes this way anymore, but you have the sense that anything placed in the mailbox attached to this old structure will be found by someone, the only living person for whom this place still has any meaning.

Succubi and Incubi are demons that prey on lust and desire. Sorry, I guess you hadn't picked that up yet. I'm a cambion, which means I'm half succubus since my dad was an incubus.

I'll go a little slower if you'd rather. Why don't you ask questions you are sure you want answers to?

T-They don't really exist where I'm from...[She rubs her very red face, but she's still listening to Sam.] Erm...okay, so, um...how does that happen?

I - I mean, well, I know how babies happen, but what I mean is, er, how is that possible??

Incubi and succubi are able to mate with humans. Cambions ... well we can, but we're basically mules. I think the demons can because it's just one more perversion and that's what it's all about for most of them.

But it isn't that different from you. My father was just one of them, and my mom raised me in secret when she escaped.

Is that what you were asking.

[She gives a half shrug, shakes her head.] I'm not sure...? I'm just...a little confused.

[It's a blanket statement. Jane's not sure what to think - nothing bad of Sam of course, but all this weirdness...]

Maybe it's more...how did all that come to be in the first place? The demons and all that. We have - stories, but they're not real.

And you swear you're not pulling my leg?

Oh... that.

[She sighed and walked around after getting herself a cup of tea and settled in the chair opposite Jane. Reaching out a hand, she let her smell the faint sulfur close to her skin. It wasn't offensive quite like the smell should have been normally.]

Smell that. It's as much proof as the fangs and tail, or the scars where my wings used to be... but you want to know why?

The first demons were rebels. Servants of a very jealous god, they turned on him and were cast from heaven. Demons and Angels, in my world, are servants or rebels who embody either something related to purity of spirit, or the corruption of that spirit. So some demons are all about greed, some angels all about generosity.

Succubi are there about lust and desire. That's about as much as I ever really figured out from what my mom taught me. We weren't worshipers of that god.

[It's kind of an unexpected scent though, but Jane tries not to wrinkle her nose or look too displeased. Trying to be polite and all.

She listens carefully to Sam's story - maybe even tries to imagine the girl with wings.] Hmm...I...guess I understand? Maybe.

If it doesn't make complete sense, don't feel bad. The war between them didn't make sense to me either. It all seemed self-serving, futile and worthless. The short version's that a succubus or incubus is like a black widow. They mate and feed at the same time.

... and it leads to a lot of very twisted emotions I have had to control.

[A black widow she can understand - and the image does help. Jane pales a little and frowns.

It doesn't sound pleasant, so she's wary to ask for a demonstration to make sure.]

I see...that must be really tough. Unimaginably tough.

[Demonstrations involve kisses, Jane. You sure you even want to think of those?]

I've learned ways to deal with it. I don't want to be a danger to people, and if I am, I'm a danger to myself. So tea, runes along my spine, meditation, whatever it takes not to lose control again.

[Jane, you should so ask her what she started doing to control herself after she dreamed of home.]

[She would probably faint. Hope you've got smelling salts on hand, Sam - just in case.]

Well, does it all help? The tea and the meditation and the...the runes? [A pause.] What are runes, exactly?

The runes? [She turned a little and ran her finger up along her spine, over her clothes.] Loki put them onto the bones of my spine. They... dampen the hormones that tie to my instincts, but when they get really bad on a new moon it pretty much puts me into a pain-filled coma for the day. That, along with the tea... it's been enough so far.

[She always had those on hand.]

It doesn't change that I have the instincts to hunt, to take whatever I want, but at least it's more under my control instead of the other way around now.

Well, that's good! It's good to do that, then.

[She still peers curiously.] I'm afraid I haven't heard a thing about runes here, though. Is that some other sort of magic in Asgard? [It's said hesitantly, as if "magic" is an unfamiliar part of her vocabulary.]

[She took out a piece of paper and drew a line of runes. It looked like an ancient alphabet arrayed in a straight line.]

Arrays of these, in lines or circles, using inks made from things like the magically active herbs. It traps some of the energy of this world inside and funnels it for a minor effect.

So, yes, I suppose you'd call it some of this world's magic.

[She comes closer to squint at the runes.] And those little lines can really do such grand things...?

The ink more than the words. The words focus the direction of the power's flow. The ink imbeds a focus point for the energy. It can do certain things, but not others. It's very limited in how potent it can be... though it can be impressive.

Would you like a demonstration?

[Her head jerks up.] Really? You'd be willing to show me? I would love that!

Sure. [She smirked and concentrated on her tattoo of 'notice me not.' As she did, her body took on a sort of invisibility not unlike the predator's. If she moved, she was visible as a blur of sorts, but as long as she held still, she disappeared from sight right there.]

Thoughts?

[As Sam starts to disappear from view, Jane's jaw drops. She can hardly believe it's happening, and blinks a few times to make sure she's not seeing things. Then, she rubs her eyes.]

Oh, wow...oh WOW...

hehe, i like this trick. Always did. It doesn't last forever, and it doesn't help you nearly as much when you move.

[She waved a hand, causing the air to shimmer with the motion.]

But it can be helpful if you're careful about choosing when to use it.

I - I imagine it wouldn't be very useful if someone were to walk into you...!

[Which is pretty much the only think she can come up with at the moment.]

mmm, [Staying invisible for the fun of it.] You pick the time and place to use it. Move when people aren't watching, choose places they won't walk to remain.

I'm kind of a sneaky little bitch, just as a warning Jane.

[She smiles a bit warily.] Heheh! Erm, well, so long as you know how best to use it...that's what matters most.

[Samantha winked back into existence and she smirked at Jane idly.] I'd like to think I have a good handle on when to use it and when not to, but that's the sort of thing that's always in the eyes of the beholder.

There's a lot of runes like these. I had some tattood into me like that one. There's limits to how often I can use them, but I've got them all the same in a pinch. You can also put some on objects or buildings. You should talk to Aladdin if you want to know more.

Ah, yes, um, very true.

[She nods.] Aladdin, hm? I'll remember that name...it might be worth it to give them a try for myself.

The tattoos are kind of a pain to get in, but once they're in they're on you to stay so there's that, and it's one of those things where every little edge helps.
