An old, brick edifice stands in front of the burnt-down ruins of a home in the hillside. Mountains rear up in all directions, covered in lush, green vegetation. Nobody comes this way anymore, but you have the sense that anything placed in the mailbox attached to this old structure will be found by someone, the only living person for whom this place still has any meaning.

The tattoos are kind of a pain to get in, but once they're in they're on you to stay so there's that, and it's one of those things where every little edge helps.

Must they be...erm, tattoos? Is there no other way to use them?

It depends on the rune. Some of them are put on objects. Some don't even work on your body. The golem I have in the backroom as security is powered by runes, for example.

I see...it just sounds a little painful, a tattoo. That's all. And permanent. If I wanted something like that, I'd have to think long and hard about what I'd get.

[Just like a real tattoo!]

Yeah, you're sore for a bit. It was worth it, but you're right. This isn't something you want to take lightly. It's not like drinking a potion and having a bad reaction for an hour. [She nodded.] Pick wisely if you do.

Pick very wisely indeed...

[She thinks for a moment.] If anything...I'll definitely start with something that doesn't have to be carved into my skin. Just to see what it's like for myself.

Try... actually, look up the one on melon bread. It gets put on rocks. It's really a little silly, but it kind of gives you an idea of what they are.

Um...okay? But what in sam hill is melon bread?

[samantha_grey]

Eh? Oh, it's a sweet bread, about this big. [She held out her hands.] It's shaped like a little melon, and sometimes there's filling, sometimes even melon flavored. They make them in a country where I come from, and apparently where a few people come from besides.

Wh - how do you even make bread melon-flavored??

You put this custardy stuff that tastes like cantelope or honeydew melon from some chemicals into the middle of the bread... wait, you've never had, like a jelly-filled donut?

...

we need to get you out more.

Of course I've had a jelly donut! But who...who would think to put melon in bread?!

Don't know. Never met'm, but it does taste good. Hibiki made a rune that makes more.

And don't give me that look. You definitely need to get out more.

W-Well it's not completely my fault that I haven't been out and about as much as you think I should be!

[She's tried, really. It's completely accidental that her trying ends in groundings.]

mmhmm? [The look of someone who doesn't entirely believe her.] So what's stopping you now?

Not a thing! And I have gotten out - I'm here to visit your shop, aren't i?

Heh, well yeah. It's a start. But we have to keep working on it, Jane. [She smirked.] Of course, I've got lots of projects already, so I'm just teasing.

[cyan_maid]

[She crosses her arms.] Well, no need to put me at the top of your list. I'll get around just fine.

[Another laugh.] You sure you don't want to end up there, really? I am a crazed sex demon after all.

Nnnnnnnnope! Being at the bottom of the list is completely fine for me!!

[samantha_grey]

[She chuckled softly.] Roxy must have a field day at your expense now and again. You're so easy to rattle.

[cyan_maid]

[You see this face? This is the face of complete and utter exasperation. Her jimmies are shockingly easy to rustle if you know what buttons to press, it's true.]

Rest assured that there was a time where I wasn't.

[she laughed openly at that face. She liked that face.]

If it's any consolation? She has just as easy a time with me when she's in a mood.

[Yeah a lot of people find amusement in these faces. She sighs.]

It's a slight consolation.

[She chuckled softly.] Well, I think I've tormented you enough for one day. If you'd like, I have a .... business trip here soon. We could get together sometime after that.
