samantha_greyAn old, brick edifice stands in front of the burnt-down ruins of a home in the hillside. Mountains rear up in all directions, covered in lush, green vegetation. Nobody comes this way anymore, but you have the sense that anything placed in the mailbox attached to this old structure will be found by someone, the only living person for whom this place still has any meaning.

Wounded in service and my health was so poor, it was generally considered I'd spend the rest of my days an invalid. I had my military pension which I was spending a little too freely until I came to the abrupt realisation that I needed to take cheaper lodgings. As luck would happen, I ran into an old school friend on the street, and while dining with him, mentioned my predicament and it turned out that an acquaintance of his by the name of Holmes had just that morning been complaining to him about the impossibility of finding anyone to share the rent of some rooms he'd found on Baker Street. I was eager to meet him, so we set off, found Holmes beating a corpse in the medical laboratory of the University to discover how far bruises could be produced after death. I had misgivings of course, but the rooms were good enough, I determined to make a go of it.

You know, I believe it. That sounds too crazy to be made up, and I could easily see him doing just that to try and experiment. He strikes me s the sort of person who'd do a voodoo ritual just to prove it doesn't work, and when it did, try and figure out the best way to kill a zombie horde one at a time, making small talk with them while he worked.
