An old, brick edifice stands in front of the burnt-down ruins of a home in the hillside. Mountains rear up in all directions, covered in lush, green vegetation. Nobody comes this way anymore, but you have the sense that anything placed in the mailbox attached to this old structure will be found by someone, the only living person for whom this place still has any meaning.

[Ok, the kunai got a bit of a start. She still maintains some of her blase look, but she reaches over to pull it out of the wall and finger it while looking up towards the roof with a 'Really?' look printed all over her face.]

I thought you were the mature one!

[Yes. She just called you 'mature' Naruto.]

[There's a smile on his face when he sees her start like that, and he jumps down off the roof, holding out his hand to accept the kunai back.

Perhaps that's enough to pay back for the basket. If she's paying for lunch.]

Yeah well... you were scared.

Startled. [She corrected with a smirk, handing it to him and jabbing her head towards the door.] I've died before, you know. A knife to the head's nicer than some ways to go.

Yeah well. Still surprised ya.

[He reaches out to take the kunai from her, tucking it back into the pocket on his thigh before looking up at the place they've ended up outside of.]

[She nodded as she opened the door.]

It's a long story, but yeah. I've died a few times back home. Just once here... But it's... you really want to hear about this? We're about to eat.

[kuramaless]

[He steps in, holding the door open for her to come through too, and then looking back up at her.]

I dunno-- not like there's ever a good time t'talk about it. Unless you don't really wanna, y'know?

If you want to hear about it, I can share a bit. My dad has my soul. When I die, he brings me back. It's... sort of a sick game for him, trying to drive me insane.

Yeah, I think I remember you tellin' me about it. You know, when we were talkin' in the shop?

[He pulls a face, and manages to find a seat - sliding right into it, and leaning back against the chair.]

Yeah. I think we did talk a little about that. [She motioned for the menus to be brought and ordered a tea to start.] It's not like I've got a death wish or anything, but after a while you don't get as freaked out about the idea of dying, not when it's happened before.

Yeah...

[He does remember, despite how it might seem. His order is for water-- mostly because he knows it's free.]

I guess that would happen. Back home people can come back, but-- they don't really come back? It's a jutsu, y'know?

... do you mean Necromancy? Bringing the dead back to life, but not quite? It's... not exactly the same, but the magic he uses to hold my soul's similar.

Er. I guess so?

[He doesn't really know, and wouldn't do without seeing whatever she's talking about for himself.]

The people who were brought back? They act the same and everything-- just, they're sort of-- flaky?

Eh? What do you mean by flaky?

I dunno, their skin's all-- peely. Weird lookin', y'know?

You mean that their bodies were decaying and coming apart.

[kuramaless]

... I guess so.

[Not the best way to talk about his own Dad but there you have it.]

Maybe it ain't the same.

[Yes, he is studying you to see if you're peeling too.]

[She notices the attention and gives him a hard look before leaning up close to frown at him.]

What're you looking at, blue eyes?

[The moment she starts to lean closer he pulls back, but in a seat like this - there's only so far he can go.]

What kinda stupid name is that-- I was just checkin' something.

I'm not a zombie, dumb dumb. My dad cheated and broke the rules. Stole his trick from an angel. And your eyes are blue. Hence blue eyes.

You're just being sure. [She laughed a little.] What? don't want a nickname? It could be a lot worse you know. I call Eridan Fin-Rot.

Yeah. Yeah that.

Fin rot? Is he a fish?

Oh lord, you never actually met Eridan did you? He's got fins [She splayed them out over her ears with her hands.], yellow horns like lightning bolts, a purple streak in his hair, gills and gray skin, along with fangs... and claws... [She shuddered and suddenly smiled.

There was nothing innocent in that smile. She liked his claws.]

[He's not naive enough not to understand that there's something underneath that smile - but he's not quite able to connect the dots. Maybe because he doesn't want to.]

Yeah. [Back to reality, Sam.] The trolls are all weird. They're each different. He and Feferi were both amphibious.
