An old, brick edifice stands in front of the burnt-down ruins of a home in the hillside. Mountains rear up in all directions, covered in lush, green vegetation. Nobody comes this way anymore, but you have the sense that anything placed in the mailbox attached to this old structure will be found by someone, the only living person for whom this place still has any meaning.

It's difficult if it's in your nature to be a bit negative to not be when the chips are down. Just try to stay calm, and you'll get through it. Give me a call whenever you need the meds.

Oh... I'm going to proceed cautiously with that other clown-related thing. I think I might want to contact Feferi again about this before I push anything. Maybe Eridan.

[She was still really creeped out that she might have been flirting with Gamzee. Given her hang-ups, it was weighing on her mind a bit.]

Something Feferi said. I don't know if I should be considering it, and without Karkat around I don't want to blunder in and just punch him. That seems... badly timed somehow.

[This wasn't sympathy. She just needed to know what the hell she was actually doing.]

No, it's way too dangerous without Karkat here. Sollux says no one else can calm him down, so if you made him too angry, he could go on a rampage. We don't need anymore unnecessary deaths here.

This... is just between he and I. I'm not dragging anyone else in if it ever happens, and it has nothing to do with him being calm or not. But I'm definitely not getting anyone else involved that way. Fuck that. I can wait a week or two if it comes down to it if I need to to make sure it's just us.

[There's a long silence. How she wishes Samantha would just drop this...]

[Nakama wouldn't be the first to want Samantha to drop some problematic grudge. She had a bit of a knack for not giving them up.]

I might speak with Eridan. He seemed to know a few things, assuming he's not being a jerk about it this time.

I'm sorry I can't help you out on that one... like I said, he's one of the few that I haven't met, so I don't know how honest he is.

Well, if what he says doesn't match up with what Feferi and Karkat already said, I'll go back to her. As long as he's not coming for me, which I doubt, there's time.

Sollux might be a good one to talk to, too. He can be... difficult, but he's honest, at least. Rude, sometimes, but honest.

I think he's got a good heart. He's done some amazingly nice things for me.

And I thought our troll trouble was done when Vriska disappeared. I never would've imagined that Karkat would go, too. It's a disaster.

Kanaya also seems to be gone. I've looked into it a little, and it seems like there's a lot of them that have come and gone before, so it might also mean that sometimes there's some really bad timing. Aradia was probably the easiest to get along with I've ever met, and she was still weird.

Kanaya? [There's a sharp intake of breath on her end, followed by a long, weighty sigh.] We were going to design together...

... I'm sorry to hear that. I started checking the ones I knew a little while ago, around when I found out about Vriska and Karkat.

You should've seen some of the stuff she made... and she was going to work with me, help me get better... damnit...

[Cursing is rare for her, but she's lost too many people after the darkness. And she doesn't know if they were returned safely, or if they died here and got returned in that state. It's too much.]

... One of these days, I want to be able to give you some good news, Nakama. There's too much bad news around here most of the time. There really is, and I'm not necessarily helpful there.
