An old, brick edifice stands in front of the burnt-down ruins of a home in the hillside. Mountains rear up in all directions, covered in lush, green vegetation. Nobody comes this way anymore, but you have the sense that anything placed in the mailbox attached to this old structure will be found by someone, the only living person for whom this place still has any meaning.

I see! And if it pays the bills, that must mean the medicine works. How nifty...

[She leans closer to some of the items. Anything she should probably not put her nose in? Yeah, she's up in its business.]

Exactly. [She chuckled.] You could say the medicines funds my potions research.

[As she got close to one of the articles, Sam snorted and laughed. She held it up and gave it a once over before setting it down.]

Careful, that one will make you reek to high heaven for a half hour or so. It's one of my newer poisons.

-Oh!!!

[She pulls back, a little wide-eyed.] Oh, goodness! Okay. Alright, that's not smart of me...

[samantha_grey]

Hehe, some of this stuff's pretty toxic. don't worry about it, Jane. I brew up some nasty stuff either way. Not all of it though. I do make poultices at least.

[cyan_maid]

[Looks at Sam curiously.] I see...what exactly is a poultice, and what does it do?

[samantha_grey]

It's a medicine and herbal mix with wrappings to help close up wounds. [She showed one of the packs.] It's not as good s the healing magics out of Sigyn, but it's better than first aid.

[cyan_maid]

[Looks at it, nods.] I see! But not everyplace has healing magic, so they definitely still sound useful.

[samantha_grey]

And even if it's one of the biggest houses, there's only so many healers to go around and they only have so much juice. They're more, just in case something goes wrong or you have to be away from healers.

[cyan_maid]

[She gapes a little.] Sigyn is the biggest of the houses?

[samantha_grey]

Yeah, believe it or not there's a lot in that and Heimdall and most of the Sigyns are healers. It's kind of funny, but they pick up all the nice, self-sacrificing types a lot.

[cyan_maid]

Oh, golly.

[That's certainly interesting to think about. She'll just place that thought snugly in the corner of her mind.]

I guess it's good to have healers in a war though, right?

[samantha_grey]

Especially if they know how to defend themselves. It is good to have them, yeah. The more tools we have on our side the better. Personally, though, it's good to learn as many tricks on the side as you can. What if the powers don't work right sometime?

Hmmm...I guess you've got me there. Have there ever been times where our powers don't work?

[samantha_grey]

If you leave town mostly... but with the number of times the giants have pulled strange stuff out of the blue, I like to be prepared.

[cyan_maid]

[That gives her pause.] They don't work outside the city? Huh...well, what about the bracelets, then? Do they still work?

[samantha_grey]

Not once you get far enough away. If you're still reasonably close, they work ok, but as far as the dwarven regions they're not able to work right.

Bracelets either. None of it. It's like every city has different rules.

[cyan_maid]

Sort of sounds like a WiFi connection to me...not that that's what it is, I know it's not, but it's sort of similar.

Yeah, you know... it kind of is like that I guess. Only, there's only one tower. Great signal here, but it gets fuzzy elsewhere.

[cyan_maid]

It would be awfully interesting if it were able to go farther. A friend of mine and I were talking about it once.

[samantha_grey]

Oh? I heard they boosted powers for the Thrymheim trip, so I think it's at least a little possible. Who were you talking to?

[cyan_maid]

I see! But has it lasted? It might only be a temporary fix.

Her name is Namine. Do you know her?

[samantha_grey]

No, it definitely didn't last, so it was pretty much temporary. But, Namine? Yeah... we've known each other for a little while now. She's a good girl.

Ahah! So perhaps it's just for special occasions.

She is! Namine is lovely. Most everyone I've met has been.

[samantha_grey]

Yeah, I think it was for the big mission mostly. And trust me. There's some definite bad eggs here. [Herself included at times.] But most of the people are pretty decent and forgiving, yeah. Namine's... kind of special that way, though. It's hard to describe. She... do you know Kaworu?

- Ah! Yes, I know Kaworu too!

[How funny that they know some of the same people!]
