An old, brick edifice stands in front of the burnt-down ruins of a home in the hillside. Mountains rear up in all directions, covered in lush, green vegetation. Nobody comes this way anymore, but you have the sense that anything placed in the mailbox attached to this old structure will be found by someone, the only living person for whom this place still has any meaning.

Sort of sounds like a WiFi connection to me...not that that's what it is, I know it's not, but it's sort of similar.

Yeah, you know... it kind of is like that I guess. Only, there's only one tower. Great signal here, but it gets fuzzy elsewhere.

It would be awfully interesting if it were able to go farther. A friend of mine and I were talking about it once.

Oh? I heard they boosted powers for the Thrymheim trip, so I think it's at least a little possible. Who were you talking to?

I see! But has it lasted? It might only be a temporary fix.

Her name is Namine. Do you know her?

No, it definitely didn't last, so it was pretty much temporary. But, Namine? Yeah... we've known each other for a little while now. She's a good girl.

Ahah! So perhaps it's just for special occasions.

She is! Namine is lovely. Most everyone I've met has been.

Yeah, I think it was for the big mission mostly. And trust me. There's some definite bad eggs here. [Herself included at times.] But most of the people are pretty decent and forgiving, yeah. Namine's... kind of special that way, though. It's hard to describe. She... do you know Kaworu?

- Ah! Yes, I know Kaworu too!

[How funny that they know some of the same people!]

[Well, to be fair. Almost everyone knew Kaworu... but they did travel some of the same circles.]

They're a little alike sometimes, if that makes sense. They both have trouble getting close.

Trouble getting close? Really? Hm...I never really got that kind of impression.

Have you ever noticed how Kaworu can be very friendly, how he can tell you he loves you, but how he never seems to be intimately close to anyone but Shinji, that he cares about everyone the same?

[There's a sudden flush.] He's never - not to me! He just asks a lot of questions!!

Oh? That'll change at some point. Trust me. He loves everyone. [She smirked at her.]

Just not the way a succubus might.

Well - uh - maybe that's just how he is, then?

[Yeah succubus is just an analogy totally, that's what Jane thinks.]

Oh, that's definitely just how he is. He loves and cares for everyone. So does she. There's nothing sexual about it.

[On the one hand, offering the promise that no, she wasn't making lewd comments on either of them, and on the other backhandedly implying that they probably applied to her, somewhere deep down...]

Mm! That's right. It isn't always that way, after all.

mmm? It usually isn't that way. Most people are pretty selfish about their affections, to some extent or another. They're both... a little odd that way. Nothing like me. It's always been... strange to talk with them about their feelings.

[Jane shrugs. She...knows a thing or two about selfishness and relationships, but probably not the way Sam does.]

Maybe that's just how things go along for them where they're from. You never know!

Neither of them is human, so... I think you're right. That may have a lot to do with it.

[There's a pause.]

Sorry, I'm not sure I heard you right. They're not human...?

Kaworu is an angel... and Namine is, well, something else. I'd rather you not ask her what. It's private, but it's close to human anyway. It just changes things for them.

[She frowns a little.]

Mmm. Well - no, I won't ask about it to either of them, if that's the case. I just wouldn't have assumed they were anything else but human. But I...I don't think it matters? Not really?

It doesn't, and they're mostly human here. It's only the little things that are different... cosmetic, or stuff like my claws. Nothing drastic like in their homes.

Hmmmm...well - if that's a subject they ever want to broach, I'll keep an ear open. But okay.
